COAL
As appetite for other energy sources gain momentum, with the fast growth of renewables and a strong focus on energy efficiency, growth in global coal demand is expected to stall over the next five years, the International Energy Agency’s (IEA’s) latest ‘Medium-term Coal Market’ report shows. However, while the forecast shows coal’s share of the the global power generation mix contracting from 41% in 2014 to 36% by 2021, driven, in part, by lower demand from China and the US, the world remains highly dependent on coal. Coal will remain the world’s number-one fuel for generating electricity, producing steel and making cement.
