While the good summer rains have helped raise water levels at the Vaal Dam (pictured here in early January) to close to 60%, Gauteng residents and businesses are still being urged to exercise restraint before opening their taps. The Department of Water and Sanitation has warned the full recovery could take three years and that it will only consider lifting restrictions once Vaal levels rise above 70%.
