Following a distributorship agreement concluded earlier this year between pumps solutions provider Integrated Pump Technology and plant hire company Mitchell Equipment Hire, Botswana’s promising mining sector and infrastructural developments will gain easy access to reliable high performance dewatering pumps. This partnership facilitates greater penetration of high quality Grindex submersible and Godwin diesel-driven pumps into Botswana’s growing market, and according to Integrated Pump Technology key accounts manager Neill Oosthuizen, there is also scope for Faggiolati pumps in the wastewater sector.
A Ellicott Dredge Technologies Mud Cat Dredging barge Partnership set to bolster African mine water sector

Earlier this year Africa-focused pump supplier Tri-Pump signed an exclusive distributor agreement with US-based industrial equipment and dredging solutions manufacturer Ellicott Dredge Technologies (EDT) to address the unique challenges faced by the mining sector in Africa through the implementation of innovative dredging technology. The distributor agreement between EDT and Tri-Pump is purposed to cover key African regions, including the Zambian mining sector as well as Ghana, Tanzania, Mauritius, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The GIW range of slurry pumps from South African division of pumps and valves maker KSB Pumps and Valves is designed to ensure optimal wear performance in harsh conditions found in hard rock mining applications, reports mining market area manager Jacques Pretorius. He adds that GIW’s mill duty extra heavy (MDX) product line is specially engineered to handle the conditions in mill discharge and cyclone feed applications.

When discussing South Africa’s water crisis, three considerations – namely history, the leveraging of technology and innovation, and the need to elevate water to ‘strategic priority’ status – are often ignored, said global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group associate director Dean Muruven. In his piece titled ‘At the Brink: South Africa's Urgent Battle Against Water Scarcity’, he noted that the first factor is that the effects of the Apartheid era still have a significant role in how water is supplied and distributed in different parts of the country, even if the country would like to believe otherwise.

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has achieved significant progress with the rehabilitation of 28 km of bulk sewer pipelines – the country’s largest sewer upgrade of its kind. This project aims to improve sanitation services for about 275 000 households in Athlone, Hanover Park, Lotus River, Ottery, Grass Park, Eagle Park, Pelican Park, and the surrounding areas.
Suppple launches AI health bot for AU member States

Cape Town- and London-based technology company Suppple launched an AI health bot at Africa Health ExCon, held in Egypt in June. Suppple says the health bot will provide digital healthcare assistance to the 54 member States of the African Union (AU), in what it says “is a move to support the establishment of a new public health order for the African continent today”.
