The London Metal Exchange is suspending deliveries of nickel from a plant in Finland owned by Russia’s MMC Norilsk Nickel, whose products have continued to be deliverable despite western sanctions on Russian metal. No new deliveries of nickel cathodes and briquettes from Norilsk’s Harjavalta plant will be allowed from October 3, the LME said in two separate notices Wednesday.

Hydraulics, pneumatics and automation group Bosch Rexroth Africa opened its first branch in Côte d'Ivoire, in June, to meet the increasing demand for its hydraulic, pneumatic and automation solutions in that country. To serve the needs of mining, industrial and energy industries in Côte d'Ivoire, the branch will offer the full range of Bosch Rexroth Africa Group products and services.
Impression of BOTSAT-1 in orbit Botswana to enter space with its first satellite, now being developed in joint project

Southern African country Botswana is developing its first satellite, in a joint programme between the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and Bulgarian space company EnduroSat. The satellite will be launched no earlier that February next year, on SpaceX’s Transporter-13 mission. Designated BOTSAT-1, the satellite will be a 3U nanosatellite, meaning it will have dimensions of 30 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm. The transfer of technology and expertise is central to the project. Consequently, BIUST engineers will be joining the EnduroSat team in Sofia, Bulgaria, to complete satellite assembly and payload integration.

Mako completes Goldsource Mines buy

Gold mining company Mako has completed its previously announced acquisition of Goldsource. As a result of the transaction, Mako now owns the Eagle Mountain gold project, in Guyana. The Goldsource shares are expected to be delisted from the TSX-V.
Saga Metals and Rio Tinto to explore for lithium in Canada

North American exploration company Saga Metals has announced the execution of an option to joint venture agreement with Rio Tinto Exploration Canada (RTEC) for its Legacy lithium project, in James Bay, Quebec. The Rio Tinto subsidiary will have an option to acquire an initial 51% interest in the Legacy project over four years, for about C$10.5-million in cash and exploration commitments.

London-listed Petra Diamonds has generated $38-million of revenue in its seventh tender cycle for the year, having sold 337 064 ct. This brings revenue for the 2024 financial year to $366-million, with 3.15-million carats sold, compared with revenue of $324-million and 2.32-million carats sold in the prior year.
Brikor plans to delist from the JSE

The board of directors of building materials manufacturer and supplier Brikor has advised shareholders that it is considering proposing an arrangement to repurchase the shares held by the remaining shareholders in Brikor, other than those of Nikkel Trading 392 and the Brikor Share Incentive Scheme. Thereafter, Brikor's shares will be delisted from the JSE.

A rhino whose horns have been injected with radioactive pellets Venture capital sought to fund atomic rhino poaching deterrent

A South African startup that’s promoting the use of implanted radioactive pellets to deter the poaching of endangered animals such as rhinos is seeking venture capital support to roll out the project commercially. The Rhisotope Project, which began in 2021, last month inserted the pellets into the horns of 20 rhinos as the final research stage before marketing the technology. Now, in order to roll out the program, it needs to raise close to $1-million.
