As Swiss multinational food and drink processing conglomerate Nestlé’s seeks to reach its ambitious global target of waste-free operations and net-zero emissions by 2050, two of the group’s South African businesses – the Skimmelkrans dairy farm and the Mossel Bay dairy factory  – stand as testament to the progress that it is making towards these goals. The sustainability initiatives being undertaken at these operations were outlined during a site visit on June 20, intended to showcase the group’s “farm to glass journey” of dairy. It also formed part of Nestlé’s World Milk Day celebrations, which the group is undertaking this month in commemoration of this international day, which is observed on June 1.

Coal mining company Liberty Coal has confirmed that it will be extending the deadline for former Optimum Coal Mine (OCM) employees to submit their applications for reemployment. The company said on June 24 that this was part of its prioritisation of the reemployment of former employees who were retrenched by OCM, which remains in business rescue.

Aim-listed Galileo Resources has decided to undertake a Phase 3 drill programme to validate its current view that near-surface copper/gold mineralisation occurs along the Shinganda fault splay over a strike length of potentially more than 4 km, offering scope for the development of a preliminary mineral resource at the Shinganda copper/gold project, in Zambia. The Phase 1 and 2 drill programmes have confirmed the presence of copper/gold mineralisation associated with major regional and more localised structures.

JSE- and ASX-listed Orion Minerals has reported further “outstanding” assay results from the confirmation diamond drilling programme in the Flat Mines area at its Okiep copper project (OCP), in the Northern Cape, South Africa. Vancouver-headquartered B2Gold has announced the sale of 79-million shares of Calibre Mining for gross proceeds of C$139.04-million. Immediately prior to the transaction, announced on Friday, B2Gold owned 110 950 333 common shares of Calibre, representing about 14.1% of the company’s stock. B2Gold’s ownership has decreased to less than 10% of the issued and outstanding common shares.
Tractor in field El Niño dries up South Africa’s agricultural business confidence for the second quarter

The Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz) and Industrial Development Corporation’s Agribusiness Confidence Index (ACI) reached a 15-year low of 38 points in the second quarter of the year. This is the lowest level since the third quarter of 2009 and compares with a level of 40 in the first quarter of the year.
PPC CEO Matias Cardarelli PPC reports a 20.6% boost in revenue thanks to Zimbabwe business

Cement company PPC has reported a 20.6% year-on-year increase in revenue to about R10-billion for the financial year ended March 31, compared with the R8.3-billion in revenue reported for the prior financial year. At the release of its financial results, on June 24, the company said this growth was primarily driven by the company's performance in Zimbabwe.
