Rio Tinto takes full entitlement in ERA rights issue, securing 98% ownership

Diversified miner Rio Tinto has taken up its full entitlement in the recent rights issue by Energy Resources of Australia (ERA), increasing its shareholding in the company to more than 98%.
This follows ERA’s successful capital raise of A$766.5-million to fund rehabilitation efforts at the Ranger uranium mine in the Northern Territory, which ceased operations in 2021.

Newmont surpasses $2bn divestiture target

US-based Newmont has exceeded its $2-billion target for gross proceeds from the sale of noncore assets, securing agreements that will generate a total of $2.9-billion, with additional assets still on the market.
In February, Newmont announced the sale of six operations and two projects across its Australian, Ghanaian, and North American business units. To date, the company has completed sales agreements for the Telfer mine and a 70% interest in the Havieron project in Australia for $475-million, the Akyem gold mine in Ghana for $1-billion, and the Musselwhite operation in Canada for $850-million.

Zambia's government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a favourable investment climate in the mining sector, citing significant production increases as evidence of the success of its policies, Canadian miner First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has said in a media release. Following a recent visit by the Ministers of Finance and National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe, Information and Media and chief government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa, and Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba, as well as North-Western province Provincial Minister Robert Lihefu to FQM’s Kansanshi and Trident mining operations, government highlighted a substantial rise in copper production, exceeding expectations and bringing the country closer to its ambitious target of three-million tonnes a year by 2031.

US Gold clears regulatory hurdle for CK gold project

Nasdaq-listed US Gold has achieved a key milestone in the development of its CK gold project, receiving approval for its air quality permit from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ).
The approval marks the final requirement for the mine’s operating permit, following the earlier satisfaction of two other conditions: the reclamation bond and the Wyoming Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
